Are you there Richard Parker? |
Extraordinary film-making. A visual feast and an emotional experience. It is not just an adventure film with state of the art CGI. It takes you into the internal life real or imagined, of the boy and you feel his loss and struggle for survival. Moreover the Bengal tiger, Richard Parker is no pussycat here and it is not to be messed with. So it is not just a case of a cute relationship between the tiger and the boy. The characters are no caricatures and the animals are no cartoon cut-outs. When you watch this film it feels real and therefore it's credibility in an otherwise unbelievable story increases. The boy's curiosity of the theistic world and his desire to adopt all their beliefs gives us an insight of his personality and creates an interesting anticipation when he has to deal with a hostile world on his life-boat. I notice that a number of technical and logistic flaws are listed in IMDB but to my mind nothing glaring that could detract from the film. Some people objected to the religious overtones and thought there was a bit of
preaching going on but again I didn't see it that way. It was just a beautiful story to me, with a reverence to the wonder of life and natural beauty and beautifully portrayed on the big screen. Worth seeing twice even if you already know the twist to the story. See it on the big screen. I'll see it in 3D next.
