Indiscreet (1958)

Cecil Parker dealing with his wife Phyllis Calvert
Mature Ingrid Bergman has another affair with Cary Grant- the other one in Notorious. This romantic comedy doesn't get funny until about half way through when it borders on farce. Cary Grant claims it's his favourite movie but it wouldn't be Ingrid's, or mine. It gets a few laughs from me but mostly from Cecil Parker who under-plays it beautifully. There is a general demeanor of resignation in his face to whatever that life has to dish out. He goes about with a calm under-current of humour in the face of disaster. That is funny, especially as a backdrop to the supposed romantic drama occurring to Cary and Ingrid, and all the while having to deal with his interfering wife, sister to Ingrid. Not a great movie but shot in a very attractive Technicolour it's very nice to look at and with a few laughs and Ingrid for a bonus.
