El rey de los huevones (2006) Chile (The King of Idiots)

Is this a dream?
A taxi driver in Santiago is considered a bit of an idiot because he is kind, considered and honest. His friends and colleagues pronounce him king of the idiots when Anselmo returns a large sum of money left in his taxi. Now that's a comment on the type of society he lives in! This film could easily have wallowed in sentimentality, something I dislike in many comedies but it didn't.
There are one or two memorable scenes, one in particular where Anselmo dreams that Sandra, the girl he secretly loves declares she loves him and not his friend and will now marry him. Enter Eva something of a sex goddess, and the three decide to bed together. Just then there is a knock on the door but he refuses to open because '...this sort of thing only happens in dreams and he will wake up'. Very Woody Allenesque.
Interesting to note that the word 'huevones' was not so long ago considered rude and would not have been easily found in print let alone on a film title. That is something of a parallel with the f word in English. Is that something still unfolding from the early days of the sexual revolution and permissiveness? To be continued.
Easy going and enjoyable flick.
