Rock Hudson finds he is not so good looking after all! |
A doctor (Rock Hudson) travels to exotic Batavia where he is assigned to a leper island where a brilliant doctor (Burl Ives) is in charge. I was curious about this film after Rock Hudson's performance in 'Seconds' (1966)' which was interesting but this one was just tedious. The premise had everything going for it but there was little spark between the two doctors to make this fly. We hardly get to see them treating anyone and no one looked like they had leprosy. Definitely not a film for the medically inclined. In one scene, bizarrely, the chief doctor is shocked to find that the native (prince?) has leprosy! WTF big time, I thought they
were in a leper colony! There was a lack of focus on what the main story should be too. Bizarrely again,we see the doctor in the end fighting daemons in his own mind and within a short space of time we see him going about with a gun looking all dishevelled and with an untidy long beard to boot. I will not go on. This one is purely for RH fans.
