Rob Roy (1995)
Now here is an underrated gem. Better than Braveheart, not as long to begin with, this story moves along at a good pace and has some memorable lines. The villain is really a credible villain. The violence is kept at a minimum but when it happens you can feel it. If you read IMDB's goofs there is a long list of historical inaccuracies but most went over my head and this film looked authentic to me. OK, I'm not a historian but most of it related to details such as the musical instruments used in Scotland at the time, apparently one of them was Irish. There are some insights I gained from the story too, like the justice system of the 1730's in Scotland and probably elsewhere in Europe. Apparently there were no local courts to mete out justice, lol! It seems justice was dealt with by the Lords, so you better watch out if you got on their wrong side, you'd better find another Lord and make sure you don't owe them money. Excellent viewing.
