Alien: Sigourney Weaver does Nostromo

After thirty odd years I finally see Alien (1979). So at least I know now what people are talking about when they refer to it. I was surprised by how little science there was in this fiction. Surely it fits better into the Horror category. Sigourney Weaver looks decidedly young here and wears terrific underwear. Poor old John Hurt did always have a skin condition that never improved. Cat Jonesy was quite convincing in that role and clever too as (s)he manages to survive with no oxygen. Someone should correct me here if I'm wrong but Ripley (Sigourney) de-oxygenises the chamber to flush out the monster/alien whilst she is safe inside the space suit minus the cat. I was happy to see that once Ripley destroys the space ship the people in it really go with it and do not survive through some inexplicable reason (or is that for the next installment?). The human come robot too is thoroughly killed off and does not somehow resuscitate like they do these days in some of the current crop of horror flix. Overall very entertaining flick. I should not have put it off for so long.

I have to correct you. Jonesy was safely placed into a life support chamber prior to the escape craft being purged of oxygen and the alien.....maybe you overlooked that one while card gaming.

I had hoped the feline had developed extraterrestrial survival skills. I'm a little disappointed.

BTW the time stamping on comments is a little trans Atlantic isn't it?...given that down here is the real 'New World'.
